Biographical Information

Originally from New York and Connecticut, Dr. Herz received his Bachelor of Science degree from City College of New York followed by his Doctor of Medicine degree from State University School of New York School of Medicine. Shortly after, he completed a Surgery Internship at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn and was Assistant Resident of Surgery and Chief Resident of Surgery at New York University’s Bellevue Hospital.

Before joining RVU, Dr. Herz was Dean of International and Post-Graduate Studies, as well as Associate Provost and Professor of Medicine and Surgery at Xavier University School of Medicine. He has held multiple leadership positions in academia and as a general surgeon in hospitals throughout New York State and in Aruba. As the new Associate Dean of Clinical Education at RVU, Dr. Herz will implement programs and procedures to ensure the integration of clinical knowledge and skills, biomedical sciences, and osteopathic principles and practices throughout the pre-doctoral clinical education curriculum.

When not at work, Dr. Herz enjoys offshore sailing with his family. They’ve made frequent voyages to Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket. Other favorite spots include sailing from New York to Maine, and the Chesapeake Bay area. While they lived on the coast, Dr. Herz and his family also took extended three to five week cruises.
