RVUCOM-CO Campus • A-107

Peter Freytag is the Chief Operating Officer/CFO of Rocky Vista University, Parker, Colorado.  Peter grew up in Colorado and has over 45 years of experience in health care and medical school administration. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree with Magna Cum Laude honors and his Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. From there he did his post graduate accounting studies at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) and Miami University, Oxford, Ohio while working for the international accounting firm, Ernst & Ernst. In addition to hospital administration experience, Peter has been a licensed CPA for 42 years and has university graduate teaching experience. He instructed a CPA review class at UCLA and a “Financial Management of Health Care Organizations” course at the University of Colorado.

Peter has been a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) for 42 years and served on the Colorado Board of HFMA for 17 years where he received the Follmer Bronze Merit Award, the Reeves Silver Award, the Muncie Gold Merit Award and the President’s Legacy Award.

Peter has been involved in auto racing and motorcycling for over 50 years and has been a board member of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (the second oldest automobile race in the U.S.) for 25 years having served as the Chairman of the Board for two years and Secretary/Treasurer for 17 years.  Peter served as a Board Member of the Colorado Youth Symphony for six years as its Treasurer and was the National Chairman of the A2HA in 2002, which is the American Hospital Association Finance and Governance Relations Executives Organization representing the 50 State Associations.

Peter transitioned from hospital administration to medical university administration seven years ago, when he saw an opportunity to move back to Colorado – his home state. Peter says, “Working at a medical university is very rewarding as you can see the accomplishment of a job well done – educating and preparing students for their future as doctors.” Being a privately owned university, Mr. Freytag revels in the fact that RVU is not constantly working for reimbursement dollars from the Federal and State governments. He also notes that RVU has an outstanding Board of Trustees, terrific faculty and staff and modern state of the art facilities.
