Student Orientation 2018

Welcome, Class of 2022!

Welcome to Rocky Vista University! The Office of Student Affairs has designed an Orientation Week to familiarize you with the campus, to introduce you to classmates, Deans, faculty, and staff, and to communicate about the resources available to you as an RVU student.

Orientation is a four-day event that is the official start of your medical school career and your introduction to Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine. You will meet your classmates who will be your colleagues and collaborators, as well as the faculty and staff members who will mentor you through the next four years.

You will receive more information about Orientation events at the check-in on July 17th, but please keep your calendars clear during the week and check this page often for updates and additions. Orientation attendance is mandatory.

At 9:00 AM, Orientation activities begin with a welcome and introduction to a four-year overview. Following these activities, you will be provided with an overview of the curriculum and will learn about the anatomy of anatomy. Service is one of the seven core values of Rocky Vista University. It is through service that we support one another and seek to meet the needs of the larger community. Service Day has traditionally included cleaning debris from downtown Denver and the local Parker community. Students, faculty, and staff all work alongside each other on this day. Please stay tuned for details regarding Service Day. Service Day is mandatory.  A backyard picnic social will follow the Service Day activities.

Family and friends are encouraged to attend this day with you from 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM. You will begin the day with a welcome from the President of RVU and the Dean of RVUCOM. You will learn the history of osteopathic medicine and will be given demonstrations on osteopathic manipulative medicine and Standardized Patient encounters. Campus tours will be provided.

White Coat Ceremony

Business professional attire is requested.

The White Coat Ceremony is a symbol of entry into the profession of medicine and is a very important defining moment for first-year medical students. More important than the day they graduate, the day that students begin medical school marks the start of their responsibilities as a health professional. Students accept the obligation to demonstrate respect, become a teacher, and embody humanism. This ceremony symbolizes the first step into being a professional, rather than a step toward becoming a professional. As they are welcomed into the Rocky Vista University community of medical professionals, students are urged to reflect upon and look forward to proclaiming the commitment to medicine at this most distinctive ceremonial event.

The White Coat Ceremony for the entering Class of 2022 is scheduled for Friday, July 20, 2018 at CU South Denver (10035 S. Peoria St., Lone Tree, CO 80134)

Further details will be announced soon, so make sure to check back!
