December 4, 2020 | CRT Update

Dear RVU Family,

We hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving. As expected after the holiday, COVID cases continue to surge. The Utah Department of Health reported a seven-day average of 2,611 new positive test results per day. The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) reported 4,133 new cases last week.  Since our last email, RVU had 11 pre-clinical students, 10 clinical students, and 2 employees test positive for COVID-19, with 5 students still awaiting their test results. Now more than ever, it is critical that everyone remain extra vigilant.

Updates for this week are as follows:

  • Settings
  • Governor’s Office Briefing: On Tuesday of this week, CO Governor Polis provided a virtual COVID-19 update. He was joined by Dr. Anthony Fauci, M.D., National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director.  View the video here  or read the transcript here.

A COVID-19 live situational briefing from the Utah Governor’s Office was held yesterday. It can be viewed on Facebook Live.

  • Fight the flu campaign: An annual flu vaccination is an important step to staying healthy. The marketing department launched a campaign and contest encouraging everyone to receive a flu shot. View their webpage for more information and to participate.
  • SAAO Video Campaign: Our CO SAAO is creating a video campaign titled Why D.O. we wear masks. Upon completion, the video will be shared with the RVU Community and also with other organizations within the state.
  • Return to Campus Following Positive COVID Test: The CRT has been asked if a negative COVID test is required to return to campus after testing positive. A negative test is not required to return to campus. A minimum of 10 days must pass since the first symptoms started along with improving or improved symptoms and no fever for at least 24 hours without the use of anti-fever medication. Clinical students must follow the guidance established by their rotation site and/or preceptor.

We understand these are challenging time and appreciate all you do. We are all in this together and together we remain RVU Strong!

Professionally yours,

The COVID-19 Response Team
