Presidential Message | Dean Search Update

[October 8, 2020]

Dear RVU Family,

In coordination with our newly selected Provost, David Forstein, DO, who assumes his role on November 2, we have again engaged the search firm, Spencer Stuart to conduct a national search for the next Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dean Told will continue in the role of Dean until December 31st, 2020. Thereafter, should we experience a significant time lag in filling the position, Dr. Forstein will either act as Interim Dean to increase his awareness and insight of the COM’s operations or appoint an interim.

Initial interviews are anticipated to be conducted in mid-November or early December.  The completed formal announcement will be available to the RVU community once it is published.  Many of you have friends and professional acquaintances in the osteopathic profession and referrals are eagerly and warmly accepted.

The following individuals have accepted appointments to serve on the Dean Search Committee. This committee represents a cross section of the university and campuses.

Committee Composition

  • Amanda Brooks, PhD, Director of Research, Committee Chair
  • Ashley Farmer-Hanson, EdD, Associate Dean for Student Life
  • Fernando Gomez, MD, Professor of Pathology
  • Clyde Jensen, PhD, MS, Professor of Pharmacology; Chair of Faculty Senate
  • Andy Nigh, MD, Assistant Professor of Specialty Medicine
  • Jacqueline Powell, PhD, Associate Professor of Physiology
  • Jacquelyn Waller, PharmD, BCPS, Associate Professor of Pharmacology; Director of Faculty Development

I wish to express my appreciation to the Dean Search Committee Members for their willingness to participate in this critical process.

The Dean’s role is defined as follows:

The Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine is a role model for the University’s Core Values and provides leadership over the two campuses that comprise the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, Colorado and Ivins, Utah. The dean’s leadership is essential to promote and set the vision for administration, academic programs, curriculum development, research enterprise and faculty, staff and student development. By so doing, the dean is a beacon for the University’s Vision of Achieving New Heights in Medical Education. The dean will provide leadership and advocacy for strategic and budgetary planning; faculty and staff recruitment, development and evaluation; excellence in teaching, creative activity, research and scholarship; university and community relations; curricular and fiscal management; and student recruitment and retention; program review and accreditation.

Regards,
