Presidential Message | Welcome David Forstein, DO, Provost

Dear RVU Family,

Today we welcome David Forstein, DO as the first Provost for Rocky Vista University.  After an extended and comprehensive search, we are very fortunate to add Dr. Forstein’s talent, experience and embracing personality to the RVU Strong Team.  His office will be in the newly established Presidential/University Suite, formally the Dean’s Suite on the Colorado Campus.  The COM leadership will now reside in the previously occupied President’s Suite.

The Provost’s areas of responsibility predominantly reside within academic excellence of the University.  Therefore, the following individuals and their respective departments will report to him:

  • Vice President of Enrollment Management
  • Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness
  • Director of Physician Assistant Studies
  • Director of Master Science Biomedical Science
  • Director of Office of Simulation in Medicine and Surgery
  • Director of Research and Scholarly Activity
  • Director of Library Services
  • Chair of Medical Humanities

Dr. Forstein has provided a plan to conduct a listening tour over the next 60 days.  He will reach out to many of you individually and as a group in order to better understand our culture, core values and your strategic vision.  Of course, we will continue to support and embrace the Institutional Mission and Vision as we strive to Achieve New Heights in Medical Education.

The Dean search is progressing under the leadership of Dr. Forstein as the hiring manager, Dr. Amanda Brooks as the Chair of the Committee, and Spencer Stuart as the search recruitment firm.  Dr. Told will officially move to his new role in Ivins as a Regional Director for Clinical Affairs effective 1 January 2021 and, following Board of Trustees approval, Founding Dean Emeritus.

Additionally, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) position has been reorganized effective 1 November. The IE Office will no longer be responsible for strategic planning. Dr. Williams will continue her responsibilities as the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness which includes institutional accreditation, assessment, institutional research and regulatory compliance.

Rocky Vista University continues to grow and mature into a true graduate health sciences university.  The time, talent and initiatives of the faculty and staff have propelled us into this next level of excellence.

Please extend your welcome and support to the leadership as noted above.
