January 29, 2021 | CRT Update

January 29, 2021

Dear RVU Family,

As January winds down, we see a brighter vision of hope as nationwide COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are all trending downward after the post-holidays peak. At RVU, we had one positive student case (CO pre-clinical) and one positive employee case (UT) since last week. Nationwide vaccination efforts are also on the rise and the path to herd immunity is clearly visible.

This week’s updates are as follows:

  • CRT Town Hall: Please join us at our next Town Hall on Friday, February 5 at noon. In preparation for the Q & A session, please submit questions by Wednesday, February 3. Employees can email questions to hr@rvu.edu. Students should send questions to your SGA representative on the CRT:  Jack.Strickland@rvu.edu (CO) and Maxton.Muir@rvu.edu (UT)
  • Communicating with CRT: Please remember that when you send an email to the CRT (covid19@rvu.edu), it goes to all 18 people on the distribution list. Please fill out the COVID-19 Attestation Form and wait for a medical officer to contact you if you have concerns about being symptomatic or an exposure risk. You are always welcome to send emails to the CRT regarding campus safety and protocol issues or any feedback but please do not send your personal health information to the entire CRT.
  • Vaccine Updates:
    • The Colorado vaccination categories and timeline can be viewed here. If you are eligible, please click here to see where you can go to get the vaccine.
    • The Utah vaccination categories and timeline can be viewed here. If you are eligible, please click here to see where you can go to get the vaccine.
    • The Rocky Vista Health Center on our CO campus was approved to be a vaccination site but we are still awaiting our first shipment of vaccines. We will notify our CO employees and students once it becomes available.
    • Our UT campus is in the middle of the multi-step application process with the state and federal authorities to become a vaccination center. We will keep you updated with our progress regularly.
    • Further updates about our vaccination status and plans will be presented at our CRT Town Hall with opportunities for Q&A’s.
  • MYTH: The Operation Warp Speed COVID-19 vaccines can’t be trusted because they were rushed.

FACT: Pfizer/BioNtech and Moderna discovered a faster vaccine manufacturing method with mRNA innovation and put their vaccines through appropriate clinical trials involving tens of thousands of human subjects. A diverse panel of vaccine experts of the ACIP and the FDA, carefully examined the data from the clinical trials and deemed both vaccines safe and effective. 1 2 3  Millions of healthcare professionals all over the world have demonstrated their trust by getting the vaccines themselves.

Let’s all continue to do our part to further push the COVID-19 trend downward to keep RVU and the nation safe and healthy. Let’s be well!

Professionally yours,

COVID-19 Response Team
