DOCTOR OF NURSE ANESTHESIA (DNAP)

Are you ready to advance your nursing career and become a skilled and compassionate nurse anesthesiologist? Look no further! Our Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Program offers a comprehensive and challenging curriculum designed to equip you with the knowledge and expertise needed for a successful career in anesthesia. We are currently in Capability Review, seeking accreditation from the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). We expect to have a decision in early 2024.

Admission Criteria

To ensure that our program maintains high standards and selects the best candidates, we have established the following admission criteria:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN): You must hold a BSN from an accredited institution.
  2. Current RN License: A current and unencumbered RN license is required to apply.
  3. Minimum One Year Acute Care Experience: You should have at least one year of experience as an RN in an acute care setting like ICU, emergency department, or surgical suite (two years recommended).
  4. Certifications: You must possess ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications, as well as CCRN certification or other specialty certification (e.g., ER or PACU).
  5. Minimum GPA of 3.0: Your undergraduate coursework should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  6. Organic Chemistry: An organic chemistry or biochemistry course taken within the last five years with a B grade or above.
  7. Official Transcripts: Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities you attended.
  8. Personal Statement: Provide a personal statement outlining your goals, interests, and reasons for pursuing a DNAP.
  9. Letters of Recommendation: Submit letters of recommendation from healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurse anesthetists, or nurse managers.
  10. Shadowing Experience: Document at least 16 hours of shadowing a CRNA or Anesthesiologist.
  11. Interview: Complete an interview with program faculty or administrators.
  12. GRE Score: Achieve a combined score of 300 on the Graduate Records Exam (GRE). (Subject to change)
  13. Recommended undergraduate basic sciences: physics, pharmacology, statistics, college algebra, or similar math class within the last five years.
  14. Criminal Background Check: A criminal background check is required as part of the application process.
