Officials break ground on new osteopathic medical school in Billings [October 4, 2021 – KTVQ.com (reposted)] BILLINGS — State and local officials, along with Rocky Vista University leadership, ceremoniously broke ground on the Montana College of Osteopathic Medicine at 4130 Monad road in Billings on Monday afternoon. The public also got a first-look at new concept art, depicting what will become the first medical school with a dedicated campus in the state. “We all know that Montana, like many states, is suffering from a shortage of physicians and the majority of counties are facing primary care shortages. It is our hope that through partnerships withing the region and by making medical education more accessible to Montana residents, that we can make a positive impact on this physician shortage,” said David Forstein, DO, president of Rocky Vista University. Once complete in late 2022, the 12-acre four-year medical school campus will have a 135,000 square foot building. School leaders expect it will host its first class of 80 students in the summer of 2023, with plans to ramp up the class size to 160 students by 2025. Once fully operational in 2027, the school will directly and indirectly support 304 jobs in […]

September 10, 2021 | CRT Update Dear RVU Family: Labor Day is behind us, summer is fading and Fall is right around the corner. The arrival of the Fall ushers in changing color of leaves, cooler weather, pumpkin spice, and of course flu season. Please remember that receiving a flu vaccine can significantly reduce your risk of getting the flu. The Rocky Vista University Health Center in Colorado is offering flu vaccines to our employees, students and their immediate family members (please call or visit their website to make an appointment). Those on the Southern Utah Campus can take advantage of the onsite flu immunization clinic to be held on Monday, September 20 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the Café/Lounge Area. The Clinic is open to all members of our RVU Community and their immediate families (children 4 years of age and up). The cost is FREE for those covered under CIGNA, AETNA and many other plans (Check with your insurance provider if covered under another plan, most plans have coverage for this). All forms of Medicaid are accepted, except Molina – bring your Medicaid card. Sign up here. In addition to receiving the flu shot, you can […]

August 27, 2021 | CRT Update Dear RVU Family: Good news arrived Monday, August 23, when the FDA announced full approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for people age 16 and older. This vaccine will now be marketed under the name Comirnaty (koe-mir’-na-tee).  This FDA approval is a milestone in fighting the pandemic and we hope this approval will instill confidence in the safety and efficacy of this vaccine in preventing hospitalization, morbidity and mortality. More infectious variants are of increasing concern.  The Delta variant is spreading rapidly across the United States, hitting unvaccinated individuals especially hard and pushing health care systems and providers to the brink in many areas. The recurring stress on our health care system is of great concern.  As the majority of persons reading this email are either directly or indirectly working to benefit our regional and national medical communities, we should all be concerned about the impact of COVID-19.  Again, we hope that the latest news regarding the FDA full approval for the Pfizer vaccine will cause those hesitant to receive the vaccination while under emergency authorization to now be vaccinated.  The more persons vaccinated against COVID-19, the more chance we have to combat this deadly […]
