We expect all employees to report to work as needed at our campus location unless there is a legitimate reason for continued telework, such as an employee with a compromised immune system or caregiving responsibilities that prevent the employee from returning to the workplace temporarily. You should discuss your specific circumstances with your manager. The University will review requests to remain working from home based on each employee’s specific circumstances, the university’s needs, and entitlement to leave under state or federal law.

We recognize there can be challenges with public transportation, ride-share, and personal. If you have difficulty with transportation to work, please discuss this with your manager.

We are making our best effort to ensure our workplace is safe. We are following federal health and safety guidelines as well as guidance from our state and local governments. We are implementing practices such as employee health screenings and social distancing practices to keep our workplace healthy.

We are staggering the start and end times of work shifts to reduce the number of people coming and going at any particular time. For example, instead of everyone working 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and entering the elevator, coffee areas, etc. at the same time, we will have some employees start and end their day a bit earlier or later than their traditional hours. Your manager will meet with you to discuss a schedule that works for you while also meeting the needs of the University.

Employees who feel ill should notify their manager per the company policy and not report to work. If you are already at work and begin feeling sick, you should notify your manager and go home immediately. Employees can utilize accrued paid-time-off hours and/or other paid leave that may be available. Contact Human Resources for more information on available paid time off.

In order to promote social distancing in the workplace, some meetings will need to be restructured. You may be asked to attend an in-person meeting with limited attendees in a pace that is large enough to allow for distancing between participants. In addition, some meetings will include a virtual option for employees to participate from their personal workspace. The meeting organizer and your manager can provide you with guidance specific to your role.

Employees should receive communication from CRT, vice presidents, deans and/or managers regarding the anticipated date of return to on-campus work. What if I do not have options for childcare, due to reasons related to COVID-19?

• Flexible work options have been approved through Phase 2. Please work with your manager to determine the best solution.
• Depending on the circumstances, employees may be eligible for paid leave if other arrangements to allow the employee to work or telework cannot be made. Staff may also use accrued paid leave time (vacation or personal leave) as approved by their manager. If accrued time has been exhausted, staff may be placed in unpaid status if unable to work from home. Faculty members will need to work with their chair and/or dean.

The CDC has identified individuals with higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 as older adults and people who have serious underlying medical conditions; please review link for most up to date identifications. Employees in the identified groups should consult the CDC’s extra precautions site and speak with their healthcare provider. Employees in the above groups who cannot maintain a six-foot distance from others during work should consider wearing a mask
regularly and speak with their manager and healthcare provider. Employees may also contact their manager or Human Resources to discuss additional reasonable accommodations.

Employees are entitled to protections against discrimination based upon age, disability, and a number of other protected categories. Others should not presume to determine if someone is in a high-risk category. Each individual should assess him or herself with the CDC guidance and/or their health care provider to determine if she or he believes it is safe to come to work. If a co-worker learns of a high-risk factor, they must maintain confidentiality of that information, only reporting it to Human Resources or a manager.

All employees and visitors will be required to answer screening questions regarding COVID-19 before entering our buildings. Individuals who refuse to answer the screening questions will not be permitted entry into the building. The University will keep answers to all screening questions confidential.

If you have a positive screen, you will not be allowed campus access at that time and will be contacted by one of the medical officers on the CRT. Each person is evaluated individually and may be granted campus access by the medical officer depending on your circumstances.

Surgical masks must be worn by all employees working on campus when in the presence of others, in common areas, in public settings and where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., common work spaces, meeting rooms, classrooms, etc.). If you have a medical condition that restricts you from wearing one, please speak with Human Resources.

Despite all precautionary measures, there is always a risk of workplace exposure to communicable diseases. Should an employee contract COVID-19 and expose others in our workplace, we will appropriately notify employees of the possible exposure. RVU will maintain confidentiality of the employee’s identity and other information, as appropriate. Employees who have been potentially exposed will be sent home and asked to telework for 14 days. A thorough cleaning of the workspace used by the infected individual will be conducted after the area has been closed off for at least 24 hours.
