Walter R. Buck, PhD, Chair and Professor of the Department of Structural Medicine, has been selected as the recipient of the 2018 Presidential Award of Excellence by Rocky Vista University (RVU). The distinguished honor is given to those faculty members who maintain the highest standards in teaching, service, and research. Dr. Buck, who has been with RVU since its inception, is the second winner of the prestigious award.
As one of the original architects of the RVU curriculum, Dr. Buck’s impact on the school has been substantial. He assisted in the design the school’s Anatomy Lab during construction of the Colorado campus and has collaborated with local agencies to improve the training of medical professionals.
“He holds both his students and his faculty to a high standard, ensuring the continued excellence of a difficult curriculum, yet doing so with compassion and patience,” said Clinton E. Adams, DO, FACHE, President and CEO of RVU.
During his time at the school, Dr. Buck spearheaded the Donor Memorial Ceremony as a way to honor those who donated their bodies to the study of medicine. The service is conducted on campus at the end of each academic year.
Prior to arriving at RVU, Dr. Buck taught anatomy at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). He also served as Director of Lecture Discussion Pathway and Associate Dean of Preclinical Education during his time there.
