
Rocky Vista University Officially Welcomes First Cohort of Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia (DNAP) Students
Rocky Vista University (RVU) has officially entered a new chapter in medical education, welcoming the inaugural class of its Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) program. Courses began on June 2nd, marking the launch of the first DNAP program offered by a Colorado-based institution. This significant milestone not only strengthens RVU’s commitment to training future healthcare leaders but will play a vital role in addressing the growing demand for highly skilled nurse anesthetists across the state and beyond.
RVU President Welcomes Inaugural DNAP Cohort
On June 4th, RVU President Dr. David Forstein welcomed the inaugural cohort during a special address. In his remarks, Dr. Forstein shared the story of RVU’s founding, offered insight into what students can expect throughout their journey at RVU, reflected on his path to RVU, and detailed his experiences working with CRNAs. He praised the students for their pioneering spirit and expressed confidence in the program’s faculty and the robust curriculum they have developed.

Building the Future of Nurse Anesthesia at RVU
Students echoed his enthusiasm, citing the faculty’s commitment and support as key reasons for joining the DNAP program at RVU. Many noted that the dedication shown by faculty members reflects a substantial investment not only in the program’s success but also in their personal growth as future nurse anesthetists. Students also shared their excitement about being the first to join a program that will strengthen a vital area of the healthcare system. Nurse Anesthesia Trainee Aaron Redus reflected on this excitement, saying, “I believe CRNAs bring something unique to the anesthesia field. Being able to help people feel comfortable during some of their most vulnerable moments is an immense opportunity and it will be a privilege to be there to help them.”
The Founding Program Director of RVU’s DNAP program, Dr. Craig Atkins, shared his excitement for the future of nurse anesthesia at RVU, offering, “Our students will complete advanced didactic coursework at our Englewood campus and train in various clinical settings throughout Colorado, ensuring they are well-prepared to deliver safe, high-quality anesthesia care upon graduation. We are excited to contribute to the long-term health and well-being of the communities we serve and look forward to partnering with healthcare organizations across the region to support access to care and clinical excellence.”
