A Path Rooted in Service
Originally from California, Dr. Petro earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He graduated from RVUCOM in 2014 as a Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) recipient through the U.S. Air Force. After earning his flight surgeon credentials at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, he completed his family medicine residency with HealthONE through Sky Ridge Medical Center and The Medical Center of Aurora in 2020.
He went on to pursue a fellowship in sports medicine at St. Anthony North Hospital in Westminster, Colorado.
Leading by Example
Dr. Petro currently practices primary care and sports medicine with Advent Health Medical Group in Littleton, Colorado. He proudly hosts third- and fourth-year medical students for their clinical rotations, providing a hands-on learning experience that includes family medicine, sports medicine (including ultrasound-guided procedures), and osteopathic manipulative medicine.
Giving Back to the RVU Community
“I joined the Alumni Association to feel a stronger sense of community and to give back by teaching medical students,” he shares. “It’s impressive to see how much growth and positive change has occurred at RVU, not just in medicine but in PA, MSBS, and DNAP programs as well.”
Dr. Petro encourages fellow alumni to get involved:
“Being part of the Alumni Association provides opportunities for self-growth, mentorship, and networking. It helps us fulfill our osteopathic oath by guiding the next generation of physicians through their medical journey.”
