By Kristen Kaiser | Mar 30, 2020 | Comments Off on RVU Graduates Match into Medical Residency Programs

RVU Graduates Match into Medical Residency Programs [March 30, 2020] RVU is pleased to announce that all of its graduates from Class of 2020 have been accepted into medical residency programs following the National Residency Matching Program’s (NRMP) Main Residency Match®. After four years of dedicated study in RVU’s rigorous osteopathic medicine curriculum, the graduates will now train in their chosen specialties for the next three to seven years. According to a press release from the NRMP, this year was the first time that all allopathic and osteopathic applicants participated in a Single Match, a result of the creation of a single accreditation system for graduate medical education. As such, the Single Match was the largest match year on record for all medical students, with more than 40,000 active applicants competing for over 37,000 positions; the number of osteopathic applicants also increased by more than 1,000. After applying and interviewing for residency programs of their choice, RVU’s graduates created a preference list that was sent to the NRMP. Program directors ranked students as well and both lists were processed using a computerized mathematical algorithm. On Match Day (the third Friday of March), students received their match results for local residency […]

By Kristen Kaiser | Mar 23, 2020 | Comments Off on March 23, 2020 | Presidential Memo: May Activities and Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony

March 23, 2020 | Presidential Memo: May Activities and Class of 2020 Commencement Dear RVU Community, Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, RVU has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 16th as well as all in-person and group activities during the month of May. The official date of graduation, May 16, 2020, will be affixed to the diplomas and University records. Please note that all Pre-Clinical courses are continuing online through May. RVU is not alone in this decision as many universities across the nation are canceling in-person ceremonies. This is an unprecedented health care crisis which at this time has no predictable time nor date of waning. This was a very difficult decision as commencement represents the very core of our mission and provides a well-deserved celebration for the milestone our graduates have worked so hard to achieve, for their loved ones who have supported and encouraged them along the way and for our faculty and staff who have mentored and encouraged our graduates during their tenure at RVU. As a health-sciences university committed to excellence, our goal is to protect the interests of our campus community including our students and […]
